The Lake George Mirror is Sponsoring a Pete Seeger Tribute (FREE!) for the Bolton Landing Farmers' Market June 22, 2014

small__2232819757On June 22, 2014 the Lake George Mirror is holding a fantastic (and FREE!) fundraiser for the Market at the Bolton Conservation Park & Community Center at 56 Edgecomb Pond Road. Mason Smith and Alex Smith will be presenting “A Tribute to Pete Seeger” program starting at 7 pm, with lots of local musicians supporting, before, during and after! The program is free, and donations to the Farmers’ Market will be gratefully accepted.

Come early and bring some friends! There will be wine and appetizers galore, as well as a “Mini-Market” with many of the Markets’ regular vendors bringing samples of what they usually bring to the Market. This is the first public appearance of our local cookbook, “Bolton’s Best Pot Luck – A Year of Great Food In Bolton Landing”. Some of the appetizers are provided by cookbook contributors. Book proceeds will go to the Market. The Lake George Mirror is America’s oldest resort newspaper (over 100 years) and has always been “Devoted To the Interests of the Queen of American Lakes”. When it began in 1880, the Mirror was a year-round community newspaper for Lake George Village, and was the newspaper of record – literally – it chronicled the changes along the lake, the rise an fall of the great hotels and luxurious mansions, as well as the daily activities of seasonal and local residents alike: births, death, weddings and celebrations. The Mirror has continuously championed local endeavors as well as all projects that concern the protection of Lake George. Many of the “rich and famous” who had summer cottages (read: estates) along Lake George subscribed to the paper by mail just to keep abreast of events and local weather conditions in the winter. Yearly subscription price in 1880: 75 cents! Times have changed – however, you can still subscribe for 27 issues a year, by mail and/or by a digital version. See the latest issue for an application – available at all local stores and on the porch of the Bolton Chamber of Commerce in Rogers Memorial Park – at a price you may not have seen for decades: 25 cents and issue! The Mirror has its home base in Bolton Landing, is very active in supporting our community projects and events, and is a sponsor for the Bolton Landing Farmers’ Market. The Market is open every Friday morning (9 am to 1 pm) from June 27 through September 12 this year. Just go to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at the corner of Goodman avenue and Lake Shore Drive – there are an average of 30-35 vendors on any given Market day – some see us! Do you love (or not!) Pete Seeger’s folk music? Did you know he often performed with Woodie Guthrie, the father of Arlo Guthrie of Alice’s Restaurant fame? Did you know that Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie were tireless advocates for global and national civil rights as well as environmental protection issues? Did you know that according to Pete, “the most important thing going on in the world today is a million little things”? Penelope JewellScreen shot 2011-07-17 at 8.01.45 PM ]]>
