I am a baby-boomer, and there are many of us quite familiar with John Candy and Dan Akroyd in the movie THE GREAT OUTDOORS. I actually feel there are few UN-familiar with that movie!
And you know what? I can’t help it, but that is how I picture Bolton Landing during Labor Day weekend celebrations on the Lake. It’s the last hurrah of the summer season!
Looking back over the 2015 season, this hamlet in the Adirondack Mountains once again put on an amazing show with all the activity and adventure one could ask for.
Did you know that for the months of July and August, Bolton Recreation Department fills the calendar with FREE lessons and activities? Tennis lessons, basketball, swimming lessons and volleyball; arts and crafts and youth game day; even the option of Tiny Tots’ Tennis! All these programs welcome you at your leisure, with no registration required. Here for a week, or two, or the entire summer, you are welcome to join us any day!
Next, there are ADVENTURE WEDNESDAYS!! This year the fun took you out kayaking and stand-up paddle-boarding, and even the New York State Boater Safety course was offered to those aged 10 and above.
Now the special events spread throughout the summer season ran the gamut from Silent Wings, a presentation about amazing live owls, to a huge wooden train display at Veteran’s Park . We embraced the arts in theatre presentations by Adirondack Theatre Company, Seagle Music Colony and the Puppet People. There were even performances by the Coed Dance Camp and Theatre Camp. Professional community instructors welcomed all to the regularly scheduled Zumba and Yoga classes, and an artist in residence offered ongoing watercolor painting classes.
WHEW!!!
Not enough you say?? Well let me tell you about our stadium seating in Rogers Memorial Park!
With blankets and chairs in hand, claim your patch of the hillside on Tuesday evenings for the concert in the Park, where dancing is encouraged though optional. On Wednesdays, put the kids in their pajamas, grab the popcorn and head to the family movie in the Park. Picture a drive-in, without the car…a sit-in? Ummmmm, nope, that won’t work! But you get the idea.
If you’ve had the chance to experience a summer here in Bolton, we hope you made some awesome memories and return to make more. If not, now you know to plan to be here next year, for a bigger and better summer than you’ve ever imagined!
We’ll be waiting for your call for information on how to make it all happen. In the meantime, go to boltonchamber.com and browse our electronic brochure to whet your appetite.
