I have a small house and a large (very friendly) dog, so when friends and relations want to come visit for an overnight stay, my first suggestion is that they look into the Sagamore – one of the fabulous resort hotels, sitting on its own island, right here in Bolton Landing. When my friend Anne was coming in from Texas to do some leaf peeping, she did just that and rented one of the lodge accommodations at the Sagamore. It was fantastic! We have several mutual friends who live within driving distance, and the Lodge was the perfect place for us to get together. Parking was close to the door, and there is a shuttle available if needed. There is a lovely kitchenette and dining space, and a living room with a gas fireplace (easy!) and sliding glass doors that open on a balcony and look out over the lake. We had an excellent room service on the first evening – linen, china and all. Because I was the closest, I had stocked the kitchen with lunch and snacks for the next day – we all stayed in, warm and cozy and well-fed, and watched the rain while we caught up on the latest in our lives. Wonderful! The next day we were able to take one of the last cruises on the Morgan, complete with a history lesson from one of the crew – very informative! The weather was a bit brisk, the cruise itself was quite lovely with the fall colors – we watched the landscape through the huge windows more than we stayed topside! (The Morgan cruises are free to guests, and are also open to the public (if space allows) during the season. Reservations are required. The Morgan can also be rented for private occasions.) The rest of the weekend, we walked the nature trail along the lake (one of the few places where you can walk along the lake) and down to the bridge that offers wonderful views of Lake George in all its glory – beautiful for pictures. The On the website the concierge (just dial “0”) is called the “Consider it Done” agent – and it is true! Whatever question we had was swiftly answered, and when Anne requested getting her boarding pass printed before she left for the airport, the reply was, “Certainly – we’d be glad to do that for you!” Anne was very happy – sometimes the airport kiosks are less than a smooth experience, having the boarding pass in hand is a very helpful thing! If you have a small house and large company coming in, I highly recommend checking the Sagamore’s offerings. And if you are looking for a place to hold a holiday gathering, or to create your own getaway for the holidays, the Sagamore is offering Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years specials with brunches, lunches, dinners and some amazing, family-friendly overnight packages. The world famous Spa and the Rec were available to us during our stay, but we had an absolutely wonderful weekend get-together right where we were, in lovely surroundings, with anything we wanted a phone call away – what more could one ask!
