Frieda Toth “The Ghost of Mary Persons”
July 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
$20Mary (sometimes Melissa) Persons has the old-time “Oh YEAH?” story we’ve all dreamed about. The widow, sort of, of wealthy log baron and bigamist Jones Ordway, she determined that the town which snubbed her for transitioning from mistress to common-law wife would not get a penny of the riches he left her. How’d she spend the money? What can we learn from her chutzpah? Researched from primary sources and re-told in story and in song. A book about Mary’s amazing life expected in 2024.
Frieda Toth is the coauthor of Warren County (New York) Its People and Their History Over Time, of the motor-scooter memoir James Bond, Route 9, and Me, and the children’s book Help Wanted. She’s an award-winning playwright and director and a trained opera singer, but most people know her from her work at Crandall Public Library, where she’s been a librarian for a quarter of a century.
