ARTISTS & INSPIRATION: Folk Arts All Around Us

January 23 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

This is a virtual program.

Join us for a conversation with folklorist Todd DeGarmo, founding director of The Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls, NY. This award-winning program, celebrating its 30th year in 2023, is known for its research collections, gallery exhibitions, and innovative public programming. DeGarmo will offer insights into The Folklife Center’s collections as well explore the significance of ADKX’s own material culture, including baskets, snowshoes, fungus art, fishing lures and flies, and quilts.

About the Speaker:

Todd DeGarmo cut his professional teeth at the Smithsonian’s Festival of American Folklife in the mid-1980s before returning to eastern upstate New York as a public sector folklorist. He has served as President of the Board at New York Folklore, and for the past 10 years has been the Editor of Voices: Journal of New York Folklore. He’s been a grants reviewer for the National Endowment for the Arts, New York Council on the Arts, and the Documentary Heritage and Preservation Services for New York. He’s taught in a variety of settings, including corporate Tokyo, Skidmore and Empire State Colleges, Massachusetts Audubon, and BOCES Gifted and Talented. Todd is a graduate of Colgate University, received an M.A. in Anthropology from SUNY Albany, and is A.B.D in American Studies with Folklife emphasis at George Washington University.
